The True Meaning of Stress
Stress! The word itself is enough to create loads of stress or an “air” of stress around us. So, if you are stressing over what exactly is stress and have been hearing it from your colleagues, family people, or friends, then this blog post will surely end your stress over stress.
Now, let’s look at what exactly stress is! What does it mean when people say that they are “stressed”!
In simple terms, stress is nothing but a physical response. Simply put, it is the way your body responds to any kind of threat or danger. Stress is felt when your body thinks that it is under attack and switches to ‘fight or flight’ mode. This results in a release of complex hormones and chemicals which make the body ready for physical action. This condition of the body results in a number of reactions including shutting down of less important bodily functions such as digestion.
Well, stress may connote a negative feeling for many but it is this flight of fight mode which helps us emerge through dangerous situations. The problem occurs when we put our body under stress in inappropriate or unrequired conditions.
Being in a stressful state can be harmful for our health and in the long run it can cause increase in sugar and blood sugar levels.
Now that we have clearly understood what stress is all about, let’s look at signs of stress.
Are You Really Stressed?
These days we are so oriented about achieving our goals that we hardly listen to our bodies. We want to achieve overnight success and gain popularity. We want to give our best in every aspect of our life. Be it as a parent, spouse, professional, or an individual, we want to win in all our roles. Instead of looking to balance different aspects of our life, we stretch ourselves to outperform in all aspects of our life, which is highly difficult. This makes us do a lot of physical and mental efforts. Usually, we feel tired and fatigued as we are constantly on the toes, hardly taking time out for rest.
If you are just tired or fatigued, your body will demand rest whereas if you are stressed your body or mind will react in a specific manner. Hence, you need to identify if you are really stressed or just like the idea of saying “I am so stressed!”
